Throughout the placing process, you will develop many different adoption relationships. Each one of these relationships is essential and necessary for a productive placing of your child with a well-suited family. The placing process will be long, and sometimes arduous. Throughout the corresponding pages, you will learn about picking the right adoptive parents for your child, establishing healthy relationships, and creating appropriate boundaries--among many other topics.

In all these situations, certain attributes and qualities are necessary to ensure a healthy adoption process. Having these characteristics will not only make it easier for you, but also for the other two sides of the adoption triad.

Communicate: Let everyone that you work with know your needs and desires. In turn, listen to what they want and need. Communication is vital to a healthy adoption and a smoother adoption process. Everyone involved needs to have open communication for the adoption to continue effectively and efficiently.

Compromise: This isn't all encompassing. There are some things--which will be important to you--that you shouldn't compromise about. But, there are other topics or specifics that you can compromise. That way, everyone is on the same page, and all sides of the adoption triad are pleased--or at least content.

Be Honest: If something bothers you or is really important to you, let the adoption professionals know. They won't know if something bothers you if you never tell them. Don't be afraid to tell those you are working with exactly how you feel.

The relationships you foster are for your benefit. They should help you reach your end goal of placing your child with the perfect family, and having all your needs met as well. Take the time to understand the adoption process, and the relationships that you will develop.
