Whether you are a birth parent or a potential adoptive parent, the adoption process can be long and arduous. It isn't for the faint of heart. It is for those serious about adoption and those who are willing to follow the process to the end. And because the adoption process isn't quick and easy, there are resources and tools available to help you along the way.
An adoption workbook is a great tool for both birth parents and adoptive parents. It gives you the steps--emotional and physical--that should be taken throughout the adoption process. It can guide you through how to accept your decision, how to help your loved ones accept and respect your decision, and so on. The subsequent pages will define an adoption workbook, how to go through the workbook, and many other resources relating to the adoption process.
Another topic you'll find addressed in the next few pages is using positive adoption language. Adoption can be a sensitive subject for all members of the adoption triad--birth parents, adoptees, and adoptive parents. Because of this, it is important to be empathetic and respectful when choosing which adoption terms are appropriate for use. Remember that each person is different. Some terms may offend one person but not another. If you unsure, simply ask. There is no harm in that. It demonstrates your respect for the other person in the conversation.
Resources and tools are available to you. Make good use of them. They will help you along your adoption journey--whether you are a birth parent or adoptive parent.
