Parenting is a big responsibility. It isn't easy, nor is it fun the entire time. To be a good parent, you must be dedicated to the task, to your child. Parenthood takes self-sacrifice and loyalty. Being a parent is more than giving another being life. It is about being there for them as he or she grows and progresses. The question is, are you ready to parent? Keep in mind that you don't have to be a perfect person to be a good parent. If you aren't sure if you are ready to parent, here are some things to consider:

Financial ability: Will you be able to financially provide for yourself and your child? Will your family be willing to help? Keep in mind that there are monetary support programs in place to help you if you run into a rough patch.

Support System: While having a solid support system isn't essential to being a successful parent, it can provide the strength you need to overcome any obstacles that come your way. Your friends and family are there to help you. Make use of them. Don't be embarrassed to ask for help. There are also local professionals that can help.

Resources and Lodging: Do you have enough space for a child? Will you have access to the resources you need to properly and adequately care for a baby? If you decide to parent your child, make sure that you have a safe place to live-one that is baby friendly.

Willingness to Learn: Every parent will tell you that you will learn a lot with these added responsibilities. For a smoother transition, it is important to be open to learn and try new things. Others will have much to teach you if you are willing to learn from their parenting and life experiences.

The main question to ask yourself is if you want to be a parent. If you don't feel ready, perhaps you're not. But, if you would like the opportunity, there are people and resources available to help you along the way. This is a decision that only you and your partner can make. That is why it is imperative to consider this choice carefully.
