Sadly, 80% of pregnant teens will end up on welfare at some point or another during their life. This can be attributed to the fact that only one third of pregnant teens graduate high school and less than 2% of them go on to earn a college degree. This is unfortunate considering the fact that you can attend high school or college while pregnant.

If you are a pregnant teen and you want to continue your education during your pregnancy, you have many options for doing so. You can attend your regular school and make accommodations for home schooling to take place when you are on your maternity leave. Most school districts will accommodate this request.

If you are a college student dealing with an unplanned pregnancy you can still maintain your current course load. All you need to do is talk to your professors about your situation and find out if any tests will occur around the time of your due date. You can arrange for re-test if you happen to miss them.

College students can also continue the education during pregnancy remotely. Many colleges offer online courses now. This is an ideal way to continue going to school while pregnant. You can finish out your current semester on campus and plan to continue subsequent semesters online. This is an ideal plan for your third trimester and when your baby is first born.

There are plenty of alternatives for high school students to continue their education during pregnancy if they can no longer attend their regular school. First and foremost, they should find out from their guidance counselor whether or not there is a school for pregnant teens and teen mothers nearby. Schools like this allow pregnant teens to go to school while pregnant and even after birth if they choose to parent their child.

If your state does not have a school for pregnant teens nearby, you still have options for continuing your education during pregnancy. Many teens finish their education up remotely by attending an online home schooling program. These can be costly, but you may be able to get financial assistance for some of the tuition. It is also possible to finish your high school education through a night school program. Many pregnant teens earn their high school diplomas through alternative schooling programs like this.

Regardless of your situation, it is important not to jump the gun and assume you won't be able to continue your education during pregnancy. Talk to a school counselor about your options for going to school while pregnant. Plus, find out your options for continuing your education if you choose to keep your baby. It may require a little shifting around, but chances are if you look hard enough you can find a program that meets your needs.
