Pregnancy is a time of change and growth for you and your baby. It is a time to nourish and connect with your growing child. Pregnancy can be a beautiful and unique experience--allowing women to better understand their bodies' capabilities and emotional strengths. Along with this beautiful experience, pregnancy comes with a differing range of positive and negative bodily, emotional, and hormonal changes.

Many first time mothers know the basics of how their bodies and emotions will change. But, there are several topics that don't get as much attention as your stomach growing and the increased emotional sensitivity. Here is a basic overview of topics you will read in our Health and Conditions subpages:

Sometimes you'll feel great and perfectly healthy during your pregnancy. Let's hope you feel this way most of the time. But sometimes you'll feel sick, depressed, and despondent. As your body makes the necessary accommodations for your growing and developing baby, your moods may change dramatically. It is recommended to talk with your loved ones about how you feel during these moments. This way, they will have a better understanding of your feelings, emotions, and insecurities.

A majority of women experience morning sickness or a general feeling of sickness throughout their pregnancy. Because morning sickness is so common, there are some simple ways to combat it. What and when you eat can make a huge difference. For example, some women find that eating crackers upon first waking in the morning dispels any feelings of nausea.

Along with morning sickness, it is common for expectant mothers to experience a loss of energy. Usually the first and third trimesters are the worst, while the second trimester, women tend to feel more energized, rested, and healthy. When you get to your second trimester, take advantage of your good fortune. Use your second trimester to relax, refresh your mind and emotions, and take the time to enjoy your pregnancy.

Discomfort and pain are natural parts of pregnancy. Even so, pregnant women should not take certain medications. The general rule is to consult your doctor before taking any medication while pregnant. He or she will be able to guide you on pregnancy pain relief.

Pregnancy after a traumatic event or a pregnancy ending in miscarriage or loss can be completely devastating. While the road to emotional recovery may be long, there are people and groups willing to help you and your family deal with the loss and pain. Local support groups and therapists are great resources to come to an acceptance and understanding of your difficult situation.

During pregnancy, your body and emotions are ever-changing and ever-evolving. Understanding those changes is essential to maintaining your health and happiness throughout pregnancy and after your child is born.
